This episode examines the art of feng shui, while also developing the character of Jet. Jet cared about Meifa because he was a friend of her father. He saw the passion in her to see her father once more, so he helped her. Although Jet said he wasn't old enough to be her father, he cared for her in a fatherly way. Meifa called him her big brother, which helped Jet not to feel so old, but the way he cared for her was very fatherly. He made a non-smoking zone in the Bebop, how fatherly is that!
Jet killed that syndicate man just because he was chasing them. He could have let him go, but he strangled him on purpose. This act, however violent, showed his protective nature of Meifa. He killed to keep her safe. (If you're in the syndicate, you die.)
Jet was also mad when he found out her father had "used" feng shui to bring Meifa there. It was only because of Meifa's desire to find her father that he was found, not the other way around. Jet was bitter that his old fried used him, but at the same time, he cared for Meifa and was glad to help her. In the end, Meifa gives up feng shui and I assume remains living with her mother. But the theme in this is important; feng shui can only influence how a person lives if they want to be influenced in that way. After all that explanation of what it is, Meifa decides to live without it.
